5 Reasons Why I Love Living in Owasso, Oklahoma (And Why You Will Too)

When people talk about the best places to live in the Tulsa area, Owasso doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. As a local Tulsa realtor and proud resident of Owasso, Oklahoma, I think it’s time we change that.

So let me tell you exactly why I love Owasso—and why you might want to consider moving to Owasso yourself.

1. Unmatched Convenience Without the Tulsa Commute

One of the biggest perks of living in Owasso is the day-to-day convenience. You don’t have to drive into Tulsa to get what you need. From major retailers to grocery stores, Owasso has it all:

  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Sam’s Club
  • Sprouts
  • Aldi
  • JCPenney
  • And yes—even a Chipotle (finally!)

Soon, a brand-new Costco is coming just south of town, making shopping even easier. Whether you need a quick coffee or a family dinner out, you can do it all right here in Owasso.

Plus, for families, there’s plenty to keep the kids busy like Wheels and Thrills skating rink and Atopia trampoline park, plus parks, splash pads, and a strong youth sports scene.

2. You’re Close to Everything—If You Want to Go

While Owasso has just about everything you need, it’s also just a short drive to everything Tulsa has to offer. Want to catch a show downtown or fly out of Tulsa International Airport? You’re just 15–20 minutes away.

Even if you want to get across the metro—from Owasso up north all the way to Bixby down south—it’ll usually take no more than 35 minutes, even during peak traffic hours.

So if you want the quiet lifestyle of a suburb but still want easy access to the city, Owasso gives you both.

3. Top-Rated Public Schools

If you’re researching the best school districts in Oklahoma, you’ll find Owasso consistently ranks in the top 10. And I can personally vouch for it—my own kids go to school here, and we’ve had a fantastic experience.

Owasso takes a thoughtful approach to middle school education with separate:

  • 6th Grade Center
  • 7th Grade Center
  • 8th Grade Center

This helps kids ease into big transitions with peers their own age. There are also around nine elementary schools spread throughout town, all offering strong academics and community support.

If you have school-age children, Owasso’s public schools are a huge reason to consider a move.

4. Strong Identity and Community Vibes

Unlike some Tulsa suburbs that blend into the city, Owasso stands on its own. It’s not just “North Tulsa”—it’s a fully formed city with its own sense of pride and identity.

In places like Broken Arrow or Jenks, you might technically live in Tulsa city limits but still be zoned for a different school district. Not here. Owasso is separate, distinct, and proud of it.

That separation has helped foster a tight-knit, community-first culture. You can feel it when you attend local events, support small businesses, or even just walk around town.

There’s a real sense of, “We’re in this together.”

5. Safe, Secure, and Family-Friendly

Owasso is not only convenient and community-focused—it’s also one of the safest suburbs near Tulsa. Crime rates are low, and there’s a noticeable sense of security throughout the neighborhoods.

I’ve lived here for six years, and my wife has lived here for 28. We feel completely comfortable letting our kids play outside, ride their bikes, and walk over to a friend’s house.

Most of the city is also relatively new construction, so the homes and neighborhoods feel modern and well-maintained. The only slightly older area is near the Rose District (our version of Main Street), but even that’s being beautifully redeveloped with new shops, restaurants, and public spaces.

In Conclusion: Owasso Is Tulsa’s Underrated Gem

I love living in Owasso, and I think more people should be talking about it. While cities like Broken Arrow, Bixby, and Jenks often get the spotlight, Owasso offers the same amenities (and often more)—with less traffic, lower crime, and a stronger sense of community.

If you’re considering moving to the Tulsa metro, don’t overlook Owasso. I’d be happy to give you a tour, answer your questions, or help you find the perfect home here.
